The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) has officially released the JoSAA Seat Matrix 2026 for admission into India's premier engineering institutes. Every year, lakhs of engineering aspirants participate in the JoSAA counselling process after qualifying JEE Main and JEE Advanced. The seat matrix is one of the most important documents during counselling because it provides detailed information about the number of seats available in every participating institute, branch, category, and quota. Candidates use this information while filling and locking their college choices. JoSAA manages admissions to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), IIEST Shibpur, and Other Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs). For the academic session 2026-27, admissions are conducted across 138 participating institutes through a centralized online counselling process. Students who qualify JEE Advanced are eligible for IIT admissions, whereas admissions to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs are based on JEE Main ranks subject to the prescribed eligibility criteria.
The seat matrix includes gender-neutral seats, female-only supernumerary seats, category-wise reservation, home state quota, other state quota, and special seat categories wherever applicable. It helps candidates estimate admission opportunities by comparing the available seats with previous years' opening and closing ranks.
